The Toda shawl, known as Puthkuzhy, is a garment deeply rooted in the heritage of the Toda community of the Nilgiris. Renowned for their intricate, GI-tagged embroidery, these shawls are not just apparel but a testament to Indigenous artistry and culture.
We collaborated with local weavers to specially craft the traditionally used cotton with a softer, lighter weave, enhancing its wearability and versatility while staying true to heritage. The ancient motifs, inspired by the sacred Toda landscape, feature mountains, elements of nature and endemic forest botanicals.
Hand-embroidered with care over four weeks by a Toda artisan, this fully reversible shawl captures the essence of slow, sustainable luxury. Each piece is accompanied by a note about the makers, offering a glimpse into the story behind this extraordinary craft. Read more below.
Packed in a reusable Ikat cotton bag, thoughtfully made by local artisans.
