The strobilanthes kunthianus — the kurinji — native to the Nilgiris, blooms once in twelve years. Here it is, scattered freely across the cloth in soft lavender and sage, block-printed by hand in Jaipur. Toda diamond motifs are dotted between the flowers, with Toda embroidery running along all four edges — the geometric language of the Toda indigenous community, worked in navy and red by our Toda women artisans.
Crafted from custom-woven fine linen, the fabric is light, airy and fluid, draping beautifully against the body.
This piece is part of Nilgiri Flora · Three Flowers — our first exploration of block print and Toda embroidery meeting in cloth, two crafts brought together for the first time by these mountains.
