Our Toda winter shawls are made in a cotton–wool blend, chosen for its weight and warmth, making it especially suited to winter and cooler climates. The fabric has a depth and presence that holds the embroidery well, without feeling heavy or stiff on the body.
The borders are richly hand-embroidered by Toda women artisans in the Nilgiris using their distinctive black-and-red geometric language. The result is a shawl that feels cohesive, considered, and true to the natural drape.
The motifs draw from the Toda landscape and its rhythms, carrying references to mountains, paths, and elements of the forest.
Made slowly and in small batches, each shawl takes several weeks to complete and comes with a note about the makers who brought it to life.
Packed in a reusable Ikat cotton bag, thoughtfully made by local artisans and designed collaboratively in our studio.
